Dr. Mostafa Madbouly concluded his extensive tour in the
city of Damietta by inaugurating the “Damietta historical bridge." He was
accompanied by Dr. . Assam El-Gazzar, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and
Urban Communities; Dr. Manal Awad, Governor of Damietta; Eng. Ibrahim Mekky,
the Chairman of the Holding Company of Petrochemicals; and Eng. Ahmed Mahmoud,
the Chairman and Managing Director of MOPCO.
In a speech after the inauguration, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly emphasized the
importance of developing historical and archeological sites in all of the
governorates in Egypt to make them attractive tourist destinations and enhance
the country’s cultural value.
During the tour, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly browsed through a booklet explaining the
importance of the bridge and watched a documentary about its construction
history, where it was built in 1890 on the Nile River in Imbaba. Its history
coincides with that of the Eiffel Tower. Dr. Manal Awad provided an explanation
about the transportation process from Damietta and rehabilitating the bridge to
Damietta.
The Governor of Damietta stated that the cost of the development works reached
approximately 65 million Egyptian pounds, which were funded by Misr Fertilizer
Production Company "MOPCO," according to the protocol signed
between the governorate and the company in July 2022. MOPCO is always keen on
enhancing its leading role toward society, which is why it expressed its
readiness to implement this plan to build a better community for the residents
of Damietta and restore the historical, cultural, and archeological
significance of this historical bridge.
